You searched for a Wanderburg captain tier list. Here is the honest version: what each captain isverified to do, which one fits your run, and why we will not invent S/A/B letters.
Why we don’t print a fake tier list
Answer: A tier list needs full, verified kit text for every captain — and on 0.9.9 EA tapes, two of the eight EN captains (Time Witch, Duelist) still have unread kit text, and two more (Lumberjack, Huntress) have no clean card art yet.
Anyone printing exact S/A/B ranks right now is guessing — or inventing numbers. Several sites already rank captains that do not exist in the EN game (one ranks “Greta the Iron” and “Rolf the Steady” — no such cards on any EN shop tape). When a rank is a guess dressed as a fact, it costs you silver.
What we can do honestly today: rank captains by situation, from card text that is readable on the shop stills. Full roster and pairing detail: Captains.

Best captain by situation
- First captain / learning the game → stay on Norbert The Normal. He is the default, fits any kit, and costs you nothing to keep.
- Cannon build (side cannons / Front Cannon) → Patchy The Pirate. +100% cannon damage is the biggest verified multiplier in the roster — just remember enemy cannons get it too.
- Farming Overtime silver → The Count (sustain for long sits) orRacer Ruth (boost kite). Empress also farms, but her half-speed tax is a real cost — seeSilver farming.
- Ram / vehicle-kill build → Tankbert. HP growth on vehicle kills fits the ram line; plan mobility elsewhere because nitro regen drops 50%.
- Fire + ballista build → Pyromaniac looks like the fit (Fire Crew + Side Ballista) — confirm the tooltip before spending.
What would make a real tier list
Answer: Three things, none of which exist publicly yet: full tooltip text for all EN captains, a stable patch (EA balance moves weekly), and verified shop prices so “best per silver” can be computed.

What about Empress?
Answer: Empress is spoken on EN tapes but is not in the EN gallery eight. Creators read:double friendly units, half speed. With Companion she doubles the hammer robot; the half-speed tax hurts Overtime — bring ram / booster / nitro. She is a build-enabler, not a flat “best captain”.

Answer: For raw verified power, Patchy The Pirate (+100% cannon damage). For value, Norbert — he is free and fits everything. “Best” depends on your module family; the honest answer is a pairing decision, not a letter.
Is there an official Wanderburg tier list?
Answer: No. Randwerk has not published captain rankings, and EA kit text is incomplete on tape. Any tier list you see right now — including ours if we printed one — would be an opinion, not data.
Should I buy Tankbert first?
Answer: Only if you die to vehicle pressure and run a ram build — his HP growth scales with vehicle kills. Otherwise the first silver is better spent on the module unlock you just toasted (Front Cannon, Arms): Unlock conditions · Silver farming.
